The Language Testing and Brain Surgery Lab (LTABS) is based at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. We are part of the Neurolinguistics group, the Center for Language and Cognition Groningen, and Research School of Behavioral and Cognitive Neurosciences. We work with people with brain tumors, stroke, neurodegeneration, and brain infections, and use behavioral testing and neuroimaging tools, such as Direct Electrical Stimulation (DES) and navigated Magnetic Stimulation (nTMS), to study language processing. We have an interest in item-level information of naming tasks (objects and actions), word association, verbal fluency, and spontaneous speech. We strive to help people with mild language impairments, while uncovering how language is represented in the brain.
We are very happy to offer research opportunities to graduate students of the master's programs at the University of Groningen. Also, we can offer co-supervision to master students from other universities. For doctoral and postdoctoral opportunities, please do not hesitate to contact Adrià Rofes (PI).
Our research is funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) under a VIDI grant (€850,000). We have been previously supported by another grant from the Dutch Research Council (SSH Open Competition XS), and grants from the Center for Language and Cognition Groningen, the Research School of Behavioral and Cognitive Neurosciences and the Alzheimer's Association.
